We think Joe Block hit it out of the park with that one. With all odds against him, Ngoepe was able to become the first African-born baseball player to make the big leagues. The journey was long, as he has been with the organization since he was 18, but the rollercoaster of a ride is just getting good. The infielder is enjoying every minute that he is wearing black and yellow.
In a story that seems too great to be true, Ngoepe has truly been a gift to this team and city. His first appearance at PNC Park brought himself, teammates, and fans from all over the world to tears of happiness. Not only because he would get a hit in his at bat, but because of the man - whose dream was becoming reality – that was right in front of them. His large smile, his fast-beating heart, Pittsburgh immediately knew they had someone special on the team. More than a baseball player, Ngoepe is already a brother to his teammates, a hero to his native - Randburg, Africa and an inspiration around the world. He is the 1.
